Egyptian cotton is recognised as the finest cotton for bed linen the world over and it’s our favourite! Bed linen made from Egyptian cotton is strong, light and breathable. One of the great benefits of Egyptian cotton is that the feel improves with use and with each wash.

 In addition to these specific types of high quality bedding, there are various bedding types to consider, such as duvets, comforters, and comforters.  Down comforters are a popular choice for children's bedding because they are easy to wash and can be used with a duvet cover to match the décor of the room.  Quilts are another option that provides warmth and comfort, while comforters provide a traditional and timeless look to your child's bedding.

Cotton is a staple fabric spun from the fibers of cotton plants. People around the world have been cultivating it for thousands of years. One of the earliest bits of cotton is at least 7,000 years old and was found in Mexico. In Egypt and Pakistan, people were weaving cotton thread into clothing in 3,000 BC. And in the 18th century, the British first found a way to spin cotton into textile with machinery.

It should be noted: Not all coverlets are Matelassé. Matelassé is a specific type of fabric and its finishing, not the actual article of bedding. Matelassé is derived from a French word referring to the way a fabric is finished. It is a textile that has texture woven into it so it looks quilted. Matelassé can be made into both coverlets and pillow shams.

Solid designs are a fantastic choice if you already have a detailed bedroom décor and only want to add a burst of color to the area. If you want a duvet cover that will be used to decorate the entire bedroom, intricate designs such as branches, flowers, and stripes may be desirable. The use of embellishments like pleats add visual interest. Some duvet covers are reversible, featuring a distinct pattern on either side of the cover. Reversible duvet covers allow you to change the look of your bedroom quickly and easily without having to buy additional bedding pieces.

It was the ancient Egyptians who we understand first raised their beds off the ground to not only improve their comfort but to show off their wealth. Those who could afford them would have beds built out of wood and covered in cushions. The lower class simply slept on straw on the ground.
