You have to consider the speed at which the shaft will be moving, the housing bore, and the runout. These are important to make sure that you choose an oil seal that will not be exposed to unconducive abrasions.
Viton Oil Seals - A synthetic rubber and fluoropolymer elastomer, Viton is used to make oil seals that provide resistance in both high temperature, up to 250°C and low compression set components. They also offer a high resistance to chemicals and abrasions, so they can be used in elements that regularly interact with petroleum and solvents.
Orient your seal the same way as the initial install.The sealing lip should face the lubricant that requires sealing.The second lip on a double lip oil seal is intended as a dust lip. The seal must be installed at a 90°, or perpendicularly, to both the shaft and housing bore. This is an issue in cases where the housing does not have a counterbore or shoulder the seal can seat up against.
Polyacrylate Oil Seals - Mostly selected for automotive and transmission uses, polyacrylate seals are able to withstand fuel, oil, ozone, sunlight and weather when used. With cars exposed to all these different fluids and elements, they are the perfect choice. However, they should not be used in low temperatures, as their flexibility weakens when cold.

ERIKS type R (type A according to the DIN standard) is identical in shape to type M, but has a rubber outer case with metal reinforcement on the inside. The rubber creates a good seal in the housing, even if the housing has suffered minor damage or is not in its best condition for other reasons. The RST version has a dust lip. These types are often chosen to replace a type with a metal outer case because they are easier to install and can cope with minor damage to the groove, such as scratches.
Shaft Speed - Considering the speed that the shaft will be moving, the runout, the housing bore and the type of oil being sealed is vital to making sure you select an oil seal that will not suffer from abrasions or spiralling.
Chemical Attack
Unscrew the pulley bolt anticlockwise with a socket and bar. Start it turning with a sharp blow on the bar.

Seals are classified by O.D. wall material, lip type, and whether they have a spring or not.
Major oil seals are specified in ISO 6194-1 and JIS B 2402-1.
