PAM vlokmiddel, chemische naam polyacrylamide, is een in water oplosbaar polymeer.
PAM-flocculant is onoplosbaar in de meeste organische oplosmiddelen, heeft een goede uitvlokking en kan de wrijvingsweerstand tussen vloeistoffen verminderen. Volgens ionische kenmerken kan het worden onderverdeeld in vier typen: niet-ionisch, anionisch, kationisch en amfoteer. Niet-ionisch polyacrylamide is geschikt voor het scheiden van gemengde organische en anorganische suspensies, waarbij de oplossing neutraal of zuur is. Kationisch polyacrylamide is geschikt voor suspensieoplossingen die organische stoffen bevatten en een negatieve lading hebben. Anionisch polyacrylamide is geschikt voor anorganische suspensiesubstanties met een hogere dichtheid en een positieve lading en is neutraal of basisch, met dikke suspensiedeeltjes van 1 mm - 10 mm.
Polyacrylamide is verkrijgbaar in verschillende vormen, zoals korrelvormige, vloeibare olie-emulsie, tablet- en blokvormen. Droge polyacrylamide is gemakkelijker op te slaan, te transporteren en in hoofdsloten te doseren en ze hebben ook een langere houdbaarheid dan vloeibare vormen. Vloeibare vormen vereisen echter minder beweging om op te lossen.
Manufacturing Process：
Polyacrylamiden worden gesynthetiseerd door de polymerisatie van acrylamide (C3H5NEE). Acrylamide wordt gewoonlijk opgelost in water, en de opgeloste monomeren (moleculen met één eenheid) worden tot polymerisatie aangezet (aan elkaar gekoppeld om grote moleculen met meerdere eenheden te vormen) door de werking van vrije radicaalinitiatoren.
