Olprinon jest selektywnym inhibitorem fosfodiesterazy 3 (PDE3). Olprinon stosowany jest jako środek kardiotoniczny o dodatnim działaniu inotropowym i rozszerzającym naczynia. Donoszono, że olprinon poprawia mikrokrążenie i łagodzi stany zapalne. Olprinon jest często stosowany w celu zwiększenia pojemności minutowej serca po bajpasie krążeniowo-oddechowym (CPB).
